Book & Audio Review

This page is dedicated to Book and Audio Reviews. If anyone has any recommendations for books that melt the heart, that increases Iman or inspires one to attain nearness to Allah Subhana wa Ta’ala then this is the place to let us know. Also, have you listened to a lecture (recorded or live) that inspired you to change your life and turn to Deen? Perhaps it motivated you to distance yourself from certain sins that were prevalent before? This is your chance to let everyone know.

One of the first books that I read was ‘The Sealed Nectar’ – a biography of the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) written by Safi ur Rahman al Mubarakpuri. For me it was truly inspirational to learn of the history of the Arabs before the advent of Rasoolullah (SAWS) and to learn how he (SAWS) changed an entire society from the lowest of the low to the shining stars of the world and how he (SAWS) took the people out from the darkness of kufr to the light of Islam. I defy anyone to read this book without weeping when learning about the character of the Messenger of Allah (SAWS), about his conduct, his mannerisms, his mercy and his legacy.

Another book I would recommend to anyone is Khalid bin Waleed. It is a biographical study of the greatest military general in history; The Sword of Allah, Khalid bin Waleed. Abu Bakr (RA) mentions about Khalid bin Waleed, “Women will no longer be able to give birth to the likes of Khalid bin Waleed.”

I also love the collection of books by Abdullah Azzam. Those who know him and have read his books will know what I mean.

  1. Yeah Abdullah Azzam’s books are really good mashallah! i have also read the book on the biography of Khalid bin Waleed. It is an amazing read, the descriptions of the battles are vivid and Khalid bin Waleed (ra) is shown to be a perfect example of Iman and Yaqeen.

  2. This website is top, mashallah. One good book I recommend is ‘Ashraf’s advice on Death’. This book is like a handbook made for the muslims of this country, detailing what to do on the death of a person, i.e. the neccesary forms to fill in and how to bury the person. Furthermore, it describes the wrong that is commonly committed due to culture but also includes a spiritual side taken from books and lectures delivered by some of the current and passed great ullamah.

  3. I haven’t had a chance to read ‘Ashraf’s advice on Death’ although I have had a quick glance through it. It is very useful in today’s times and in the West as a lot of our janaza rituals are based on culture, traditions and bid’ah rather than the true Islamic way and according to the Sunnah. Mashallah, the series on ‘Ashraf’s advice..’ is very good and very relevant. I do, however, have ‘Ashraf’s advice on Marriage’ (I’m sure a lot of people looking to get married have!).
